We were thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Sarah and Zachary of High Heels & Grills. Zachary and Sarah are a husband/wife blogging duo that share mouth watering recipes that make your teeth sweat just looking at them. When coming up with a name for their blog, Zachary wanted something that would include him and Sarah wanted something that described her–hence the name High Heels (for Sarah) and Grills (for Zachary). The lilac and sage green color palette they chose combine to create a flavorful design that pairs perfectly with the delicious recipes they share. It’s fresh and feminine for Sarah, but also has a touch of masculinity for Zachary.
Their order was assigned to Erika S. who helped them move their site from Blogger to WordPress. They wanted their blog to look less like a blog and more like a website, which Erika achieved with the left justified logo and top menu bar that includes their social links and a search bar. They wanted a clean and fresh design that was full of character. They wanted their title logo to reflect the husband/wife idea, so Erika used a handwritten font and high heel graphic for the “Sarah” part of the title and a more masculine sans-serif font and spatula graphic for the “Zachary” part.
Here’s a look at the finished design:
Erika’s take on the project:
When I was first assigned the High Heels and Grill’s order, I was so excited to learn that they were a husband and wife blogging duo. I loved their cute personalities and the way they both shine through their posts. I mainly worked with the wife, Sarah, through the process, but it made me so happy each time she would let me know her husband was loving the design as well.
The first mood board I created was kind of off (okay, way off) from what the final mood board ended up looking like, but the whole process working with them was so great. Once we got the color scheme right, it was so much easier to get all of the other design elements exactly how they wanted them. Sarah and her husband were great at giving me input, and letting me know exactly what they were looking for, which helped the design process go fairly quickly.
My favorite part of this design is the layout. The header being on the sidebar is really fun and different, while still letting the overall blog stay clean so readers can focus on their great content.
Sarah’s Testimonial:
I had been looking for someone to design my blog for MONTHS and actually hired a couple of different people to do it, only to be super disappointed because it wasn’t anything like I wanted it to be. I didn’t want to pay thousands of dollars, but I also wanted it to look clean and classy. I then found Designer Blogs and emailed them a few times to see how their process worked and received so much help and information. I took the plunge to get a new design with them and Erika S. was assigned to my blog. Am I ever glad she was! I am a bit of a perfectionist, so I felt like I was making tweaks and changes that were only noticeable to me, but she was so patient in getting things to look exactly how I pictured them. She was professional, but still made it feel like I was her friend, rather than just another client. I will shout from the rooftops how much I love this design company and will definitely refer them to everyone I know! You won’t regret working with them!
Be sure to check out High Heels & Grills! Your taste buds will feel like they’ve died and gone to heaven!
